Discussion Question--Thanksgiving Edition

Here's one that will encourage us all to consider things we're thankful for:

Which would you rather lose: your mental faculties or your physical prowess?

In other words, would you rather dramatically drop your IQ a la' Charly in _Flowers for Algernon_ or become a quadriplegic?

Bonus points for finding qualifiers that would make a difference in your decision.

Bizarre New Hobby

My kid sister bought The Wife a few birthday presents this year, among them the first season DVD of "How I Met Your Mother", which I've found to be fairly amusing. Of course The Wife and I have spent various amounts of time assigning show roles to various of our friends (Adam, you know who you got stuck with) and laughing uproariously. This show is WAY funnier than "House", and there's no confusing jargon to decipher.

Vacation Blog Update

Since I know you've all been wondering with bated breath...Yes, I've bathed since the last post. You can take off your gas masks. Or maybe not, I've been on antibiotics...

Anyway, vacation is going well. We're training the new dog who seems to be bright. At least she's done less damage in the past 3 days than John averages over a weekend visit. Check out The Wife's Other Blog for details. And pics...she's awfully cute.

In other good news, German Shepherds (even baby ones) apparently require large amounts of running around in circles to keep them quiet. Yours truly has been helping to supply this, which should induce further sveltening.

Speaking of exercise, I'm back at karate after the surgery (well, sort of. I totally flaked tonight 'cos I was playing with the puppy). Karate is easier when you weigh less.

More news as events warrant.

A Proof For You

Axiom the First: Hollywood is capable of making any story worse, especially if it is not specifically designed for the screen.

Axiom the Second: The Saga of Beowulf is difficult to follow, interpret, and enjoy even if you have time to consider the imagery.

Conclusion: I won't be blowing US$20 to see Angelina Jolie with a CGI dragon tail.

Vacation Again

The past few weeks have been good to me. After Renfest I got my tonsils trimmed, then started a relatively easy month at work. More good news, the guy who does the scheduling owed me a favor which he repayed by giving me about 10 straight days off, including Thanksgiving. I have all sorts of grandiose plans for what to do with my time--catch up on studying, clean the house, deal with this new puppy we're apparently getting, etc. But given how mellow I'm feeling today, it's starting to look like it'll be a miracle if I manage to bathe.

I should not require this much relaxation, but oh well...

Marketing Genius!

I don't know why, but this makes me think of Andy.
