On the Interwebz

Perquisites--I Has Dem

I'm driving home from work this morning, I got off the interstate at my usual exit only to find....A bunch of cops pulling folks over for expired brake tags and seatbelt issues. Now, I had my seatbelt on, but I hadn't had my car "inspected" (read: give the Man his money) in the requisite amount of time.

But fortunately I was still wearing work clothes. Apparently, that's good for a month or so of grace period.

All Work and No Play Makes Ted a Dull Boy

I'm pulling something like 30 shifts in 35 days, and right now I'm on day 35 of that mess. Leaves me feeling a little worn out and, unsuprisingly, without much in the way of blog fodder. Kind of stalls the weight loss thing too.

The good news is I'm off tomorrow (which will primarily be spent sleeping, methinks) AND Saturday and Sunday. There's a ton of stuff to do around the house, but I think most of it is going to get blown off in favor of sitting on my ass and watching Dr Who.

Anybody seen "Iron Man 2" yet?

The first one was pretty damned awesome, so I'm looking forward to the second one. I just haven't gotten around to seeing it yet.

Day Off

Have today off. Looking forward to some serious not working. In other news, Ian the Brown-Eye (of my rugby days) is in town tonight. Engaging stunt liver....

Movie Review

Went and saw "Kick-Ass" last night. I had absolutely no idea what it was about, other than the promo poster which shows four figures in super-hero type getups. It starts off very Spider-Man-esque, with the loser kid whining about how lame his life is.

I guess this is the part where I warn about spoilers:

Spoilers ahead, yo.

Now back to the post:

Guy decides to spice up his life by becoming a superhero, except he's not very good at it (having no powers whatsoever). The result is kind of like "Rocky" in tights: guy gets his ass kicked a bunch, but refuses to give up, and eventually succeeds. Along the way he inspires a bunch of other costumed crusaders, finally gets to talk to the hot girl in his high school, and similar.

The plot of this thing is fairly predictable if you know the genre. What makes it special is the "gritty" sort of approach (a la "Sin City" and "Watchmen") except with a certain psychotic lightheartedness to it. Very odd tone, but if you were/are a comic book geek you'll probably enjoy it.

Don't take the kids. This flick is rated R for very good reasons. I saw a couple of 8-10 year olds come in at the beginning with (presumably) their mom...I can only hope they left at some point.

Minus one star for the Joe-Bob rule, for a total of 3 stars. Ted sez check it out.
