On Proper Sleep Hygiene
For most of my life, I have had an atypical sleep schedule. I have always preferred to work nights, have enjoyed sleeping late, et cetera. In the past few years, my work has forced me to vary my schedule pretty dramatically (day shifts, night shifts, swing shifts, sometimes all in the same week).
As I'm getting older, my body puts up with this sort of shit less and less. I get short-tempered (well, more so than usual), I eat more, I'm less likely to exercise. A few months ago, I managed to eliminate shifts in my sleep cycle for a few weeks, and noticed a huge improvement in my energy level and some associated weight loss.
I'm starting to wonder if sleep deprivation isn't bad for me.
