....aaaand I'm Back
The last few months have been...hectic. I quit one job, started another job 5 states away (not in that order, which made for some interesting commuting), moved out of my old place before I had a house in the new state (still don't as a matter of fact), The Wife graduated, and we went to Australia for 2 weeks to celebrate.
I needed 2 weeks.
I got to see some amazing stuff, drank some really bad beer (it's amazing how awful the beer is down there, given how much of it they drink). Ayers Rock (or "God's Kidney Stone") is cool, the Great Barrier Reef is just plain amazing, and the view from the top of the Sydney Harbor Bridge was amazing.
The best part, though, was a little resort in the middle of nowhere called Bloomfield. To get there you take a small plane to a grass landing strip, then a 10 minute jeep ride to a boat dock and a 30 minute boat ride. There is no phone, no internet, and no locks on the doors. Talk about remote. I spent a significant part of my time there in a hammock with a cigar and some good Scotch thinking about Ernest Hemingway.
Didn't suck.
I'm going to miss my old friends from N'awlins, but I'm definitely looking forward to spending more time with my friends up here. The weather is a whole lot better, and the flavor of the local stupidity is refreshingly different.

Even in First Class I don't think I'd do well sitting down for that long of a flight. Perhaps an overnighter in Honolulu would be in order.

Not a bad idea, but if you plan well you can sleep through most of the flight.
