Discussion: The Sequel

Everyone (well, practically everyone) knows two basic rules of cinema:

1) the book is always better;

2) the sequel is always worse.

Obviously, there are exceptions. The first ones that come to my mind are Forrest Gump (book sucked) and the Mad Max series (Road Warrior was the best of the three).

What other examples can y'all think of?

    Shrek, eh on the book. The sequels were really pretty good.

    Good one Jenny. I saw the book in the library a while ago, you're absolutely right.

    Practical Magic was unreadable - good chick flick though.

    The movie Patton was better than Farago's book. At least it moved quicker.

    Apollo 13 is a wash for me. I really liked the book Lost Moon, and I really like the movie, even with it's inacuracies.

    Band of Brothers is another one. Ambrose's book didn't bring it to life nearly as well.

    That's true. His book "Pegusus Bridge" was pretty good.
    Unfortunately he reads his book D-Day in the trilogy I have, and it stinks.

    vampires by steakley,
    and a double helping of forest dumb.

    How about a vote for Casino Royale?
    Ian Flemming's initial offering vs. Daniel Craig's series restart (not the 1967 allen/sellers/niven spoof thing)
