Getting in Touch with my Inner Grumpy Old Man
Something's been bugging me lately regarding the switch to digital TV. I'm not complaining about the switch itself, that I get. What I don't get is why you and I are subsidizing a new TV receiver for every schmuck who's been too poor to buy a TV for the past, what, 3 years.
That's my tax dollars going to make sure Billie Sue and her 19 welfare brats can continue to watch "Jerry Springer". I'm sure there's better ways to spend that money.

Corpsman, heal thyself.
I agree with your complaint, but it only begins to scratch the surface when it comes to my tax dollars being squandered. The old Sub Commander didn’t get a bailout, but it sure feels like I bought a brand new Chevy, a Dodge, and a Ford along with a couple of top notch vacations for a few white collar investment crooks.
By the way, Billie Sue went to Circuit City back in June to buy “The Best of Jerry Springer” on DVD for her baby daddy’s mother. Circuit City offered her “The Best of Jerry Springer Volume 2 Hot For TV” for free if she applied for a Circuit City credit card with a $3000.00 limit. She, her baby daddy, and all 19 of the little bastages are watching both DVD’s on the 42 inch Plasma HD unit she bought last week at the “Going Out of Business” sale. She cut up the card the day the TV was delivered and of course there are no wages to attach when the bill goes unpaid. She has 1 year’s worth of Direct TV for free that came with the TV and she used the $200.00 debit card from Samsung’s rebate program to pay the security deposit on the satellite service. Next year she will use the rebate debit card from Windstream from the purchase of her Prepaid Blackberry to continue the Direct TV subscription.

It disturbs me that this scam is so well-developed. But only a little. I don't pay taxes to Circuit City, Samsung, Windstream, or Blackberry, and if they don't return a decent dividend at the end of the year I have the option to sell their stock (or not buy it in the first place). If private entities (individuals, corporations, whatever) want to spend their money foolishly it's not my problem. Not so much with the Gummint--that's MY money they're spending.

Like hell. I'm a Libertarian. I sure don't want to spend my hard-earned money telling gays they can't get married. Let 'em suffer like the rest of us.
