California Gay Marriage Update
When I read "constitutional amendment", I assumed a two-thirds majority. Turns out that's not the case. The Prop 8 vote passed 52% to 48%. That's much more understandable in the Land of Fruits and Nuts.

Maybe the 52% is people who are tired of seeing pride marches that make Mardi Gras look tame.

Hmmmm.... I wonder how much the Crescent City has changed since I lived there. I saw the first ever Baachous (god I really can't spell) parade. Back then, all gay bars were in the quarter, and the quarter was mostly prostitutes, tourists, and gay bars. Except Peters st., which had some divey bars that catered to merchant seamen. Did the quarter ever get yuppied up?

RCD,
You're right, Bacchus is a god you can't spell. The quarter is basically a safe place to get a little risque' these days, whether you prefer dudes, chicks, or jazz. The Irish music is weak ever since O'Flaherty's closed, but the national chain bars keep going out of business, so I guess it all balances out. Just don't eat a lucky dog unless you're really drunk.
